In this episode, the Friends may be few but the tips and recommendations are not! For Episode 31, Jim Scott is the tchotchke holder and host and is joined alongside Tony Price. The two Friends go through a list of 20 different and unique accommodations from around the world that they recommend from personal experience. Listen along as you get all the best tips for places to stay in major cities around the world.

You can listen along here:

1. Hotel Abbazia – Venice, Italy: Is an old monastery turned into a hotel. They have a quirky, little bar that has Heinekens. It’s not too far from the train and bus drop-off area. The European breakfast there is amazingly good.

2. VRBO Apartment – Paris: It was in a residential area, there was a café and bar right up the street. They have a courtyard at the back which was neat and the toiletries were different too.

3. The Peabody MemphisMemphis, Tennessee: Shelly and Tony went to see Beale Street and decided to stay here. The original hotel was built in 1869 and was reconstructed and reopened in 1925. It was known for the “Peabody Ducks” that ride down from the elevator to the hotel lobby’s fountain and swim there all day. In the 1930s’, the original general manager was said to have had too much whiskey and thought it’d be funny to place some of their live call duck decoys in the fountain. It stuck since.

4. Greenbrier Resort – White Sulphur Springs, Western Virginia: Its been around since the 1800s’. They once built a bunker that was a replica of the Congress, in case of a fallout. It was a beautiful setting with a beautiful creek in the middle of the mountains. It has wild decorations coming from the 40s and 50s’.

5. Airbnb Home – Paris: It was up in Montmartre, on a little hillside. It was three blocks away from a stop to Basilica and the Metro. It was a great location and the views are incredible. You can see the Eiffel tower from the kitchen windows while in the living room, as well as the Basilica.

6. A Riad – Marrakesh, Morocco: We saw incredible pictures and were hyped up. When we got there, a guy walked us to a labyrinth of the walkway which got worse and worse – broken bricks, homeless people, the smell of cat urine. We came upon this huge door with a lock on it. We walked into this little oasis and it was like a palace! On the rooftop, you have beautiful views among other things.

7. Sahara Desert Camping - Merzouga, Morocco: We traveled far and long to sleep in tents in the middle of the Sahara desert. The tents were very elaborate. The fabric and carpet kept the heat well inside. They have carpets outside with huge pillows and campfire. It was an incredible experience to just lay in the desert, look up, and see all those stars.

8. La Concha Hotel & Spa – Keywest, Florida: It’s a major resort right on the street.

9. Marrero’s Guest Mansion – Keywest, Florida: It is an old mansion where no room is the same. We found out after staying there that it is the most haunted mansion in the entire area. Shelly swore that she heard somebody to which Tony assured must have been someone next door – well there was no one next door when they checked out. What Tony loved about it is that it is right smack in the middle of everything. There was also a self-serve bar in the pool area.

10. Airbnb Historic Mozart 1BR Apartment – Prague, Czech Republic: It was two to three blocks away from the center. What’s unique about is that Mozart stayed in this same apartment when he came to perform in the city.

11. Airbnb 1500s’ House – Dubrovnik, Croatia: It is a quirky, old building located inside the Old Town. It’s fun to stay in a place that’s 600 years old.

12. Airbnb Townhouse – Amsterdam, Netherlands: Well-polished and stately that goes back in the 1600s. The staircase was narrow and the steps are not the same height which can be trippy. It was difficult to drag our luggage to the 4th floor. The only thing was there are shared bathroom. Better check those out whenever booking an Airbnb.

13. Hotel Nextto – Barcelona, Spain: This was a cool, little hotel in the big shopping district in Barcelona. It was close to everything and at night they have people playing orchestra and jazz.

14. Airbnb Apartment – Madrid, Spain: A two-story apartment with a fantastic location, right across Plaza Del Sol. One block away was also the Plaza Mayor. 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen.

Rocabella Mykonos Hotel and Spa In Mykonos, Greece

15. Rocabella Mykonos Art Hotel and Spa – Mykonos, Greece: The views are incredible. Everything was amazing here. The bedrooms have a platform bed with giant windows that look over the sea. It must have been the biggest bedroom. The bonus was a jacuzzi in each room! There’s an infinity pool in which you can just sit at the edge and look at the water. You can sit on the giant bean bag chairs or in the cabana with the bar just right on the other side. The service was outstanding.

16. Astro Palace Hotel – Santorini, Greece: A great hotel. We highly recommend both.

17. Hostel – Pamplona, Spain: Only a couple blocks away from Plaza del Castillo that was dorm-like. Jim Scott and his wife shared the room with another couple. With this type of accommodation, it’s more about location.

18. Airbnb Apartments – Pamplona, Spain: Right smack in the middle of San Fermin and the festival. This means 7-8 ft drum beating down the street below in 2 or 5 AM. It’s in the older part of the town and the apartments could be 200 years old.

19. Hotel – Temple Bar Area, Dublin, Ireland: We stayed there for St. Paddy’s Day. Nothing special but more about location.

20. Hotel – Munich, Germany: 2 blocks away from the Oktoberfest Festival area. Again, it’s a trade-off between convenience and great/luxury accommodation.
