Welcome back to the Friends That Carry On Podcast! We’re a group of friends that like to travel the world together. We want to share our passion for travel through travel tips and tricks we’ve picked up along away and stories of our adventures!
For Episode 10, Jim Scott is our host and tchotchke holder, and he’s joined this week alongside Tony Price, Brian Romine, Eric Fargo, and Walt Palmer. In this episode, we’ll be talking about D-Day and the 75th Anniversary, what it means to France & America, our past experiences visiting Omaha Beach and what to expect if you get a chance to visit yourself.
You can listen along here:
We started the podcast with having each person talk about what D-Day meant to them and their families. It’s difficult to talk about this, as it’s very emotional and moving for all of us, but we remember our families being impacted, which makes it important to talk about. We discussed some of the history about D-Day and what actually happened, and then talked about what the memorial is like at Omaha Beach. One of the Friends is also a veteran, so we have a unique perspective of someone who didn’t serve during D-Day obviously, but served and helped us better understand a veterans perspective.
If you’ve followed us any amount of time, you know that we recommend tours, and a tour of Omaha Beach in Normandy is definitely worth it. We continue on about our past experiences visiting Omaha Beach and how us missing a tour ended up in a great story with even more behind-the-scenes look at the memorial and it resulted in us making a friend along the way!
We wrapped up the Podcast with other stories of us visiting Normandy Beach and some of the other sights you can see if visiting, like some of the boats, a museum, and more. We also tried to step into some of the shoes of the men who fought that day and it really makes us appreciative, thoughtful, and grateful for the bravery of the men that fought that day. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Normandy Beach and see one of the places where France & America crossed paths in history and changed both countries forever, you should.
