Welcome back to the Friends That Carry On Podcast! We’re a group of friends that like to travel the world together. We want to share our passion for travel through travel tips and tricks we’ve picked up along away and stories of our adventures!
For Episode 6, Brian Romine is our tchotchke holder and host, and he’s joined alongside Jim Scott, Tony Price, Eric Fargo, and Walt Palmer, and they have a very exciting episode this week! This week we’re joined by guest, Ric Gaz, creator and writer of the Global Gaz. Ric Gaz is an author, producer, fellow podcaster, and travel blogger with the goal to visit all 193 countries in the world.
You can listen along here:
We began the episode with a bit of an introduction from Ric and we asked him to tell us a little bit about himself and what got him into travel blogging, specifically what made him choose the goal of visiting all 193 countries in the world. It’s a big goal, not accomplished by many, so we were curious what made him decide to take on the challenge. (By the way, he’s completed 137/193 countries since we’ve posted this episode!) Eric also asks for some clarity on the “rules” of his goal, such as: what really counts as a “visit”?
We then get right into some of Ric’s many, fascinating stories that he highlights on his travel blog. He starts with the story of the friends he met when he was quarantined in China, continued into how he went to Syria last minute and without a visa (at first). That then naturally led Ric and us into the topic of restricted countries or countries who have more sensitive relationships with America. We talked about how difficult it is to travel to those countries and have many of those countries Ric has crossed off his list so far.
We then switch gears into some of Ric’s work, including the 3 books he published and the 2 documentaries he produced and featured in, and has now shown at multiple festivals. Ric also goes into details about past trips he’s done as an ambassador of GAdventures and talks more about his books and what each one entailed. We wrap up the podcast discussing the Global Gaz blog and website and what he has next coming up on his travel schedule.
